Pantherettes #1 in Texas and #1 in the Nation

Not only are the Duncanville Pantherettes winners of the 2012 Sandra Meadows Classic, 2013 Texas UIL Class 5A State Champions, but USA Today has them listed as the #1 team in the nation. Congratulations Pantherettes. You can read more about the Pantherettes and their run to state by clicking here.

Welcome to the home of the best Girl’s Varsity Basketball Tournament in the Southwest.

logo_2012The 62nd Annual Sandra Meadows Classic was held on December 27-29, 2012 and had three states and a team from Australia represented in the field of 32 teams. There were eleven new teams participating in the tournament for the first time.

The Duncanville Pantherettes repeated as Tournament Champions after defeating Plano West in the finals.

Teams finishing with top honors were:

  • Duncanville – Tournament Champions
  • Plano West – 2nd Place
  • DeSoto – 3rd Place
  • Overton, TN – 4th Place
  • Clear Springs – 5th Place
  • Kennedale -6th Place
  • Silver Bracket – Houston Bellaire
  • Consolation Bracket Winner – Frisco Liberty

The All Tournament Team featured players from both finals teams. Natalie Chou, Devri Owens, and Tyara Warren from Plano West, and Destiny Means, Tasia Foman, Ariel Atkins, and Kiara Perry from Duncanville.

Tasia Foman was also named Outstanding Defensive Player, Ariel Atkins was named Outstanding Offensive Player, and Kiara Perry was named Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Also named to the All Tournament Team was Nekia Jones from Beaumont Ozen, Beatrice Attura of Frisco Liberty, Kennedale Senior Autummn Williams, Brooke McCarty and Courtnie Latham of Clear Springs, Kelsey Lange of The Woodlands, Lulu McKinney and AJ Alix of Houston Bellaire, Amber Holmes of Overton, and Adrienne Lewis and Brianna Wise of DeSoto.
